Company Victoria PLC

Client Background

Abingdon Flooring, part of Victoria PLC, needed a series of bespoke shadow boards to organise and securely store their tools and equipment. These boards aimed to improve workplace efficiency, ensure tool accountability, and create a safer working environment.

Project Objectives

The primary goal was to design and produce a set of custom shadow boards that would fit specific tools and equipment used daily. This involved creating accurate tool drawings, producing matching components, and assembling the boards for optimal functionality.

Design and Production

The project began with a detailed artwork and design stage, where tools and equipment were measured and drawn to scale. This precise drawing process ensured that every tool would fit perfectly into its designated shadow.
Once the designs were finalized, the project moved into production, which involved:
• 3D printing of prototype tool holders for initial fitting and verification.
• Plasma cutting and welding of metal components for durability.
• Powdercoating of the crafted tool holders to prevent corrosion and provide a clean finish.
The assembled shadow boards now feature custom-holstered tools and equipment, all designed to hold specific items securely and in an organized manner.

Challenges and Solutions

One of the main challenges was accurately replicating each tool’s shape and size in the shadow design. Close collaboration with the client during the drawing phase ensured precise specifications. The multi-step process of 3D printing, welding, and powder coating resulted in a robust, professional end product.

Outcome and Impact

The completed shadow boards significantly improved the organization and safety of Abingdon Flooring’s work area. Tools are now stored securely, easily accessible, and properly accounted for, increasing workflow efficiency.
